The thesis presents alcohol addiction and alcohol addiction treatment programs, which are available in Slovenia. In the theoretical part I presented the basic characteristics of alcohol addiction, indicated the important statistics, outlined alcohol policy in Slovenia and the EU and presented the most established models of dealing with alcohol addiction in Slovenia. I focused on the twelve steps program and social andragogic method. In the empirical part I have sought to present the alcohol addiction treatment programs from the user's point of view. To this end, I conducted interviews with members of Alcoholics Anonymous community and members of Perko's Therapeutic Community. I tried to find out, what in their opinion lead to the development of addiction to alcohol, what are the reasons that an individual decides to deal with his addiction, what are the factors that influence the individual’s success in abstinence from alcohol and how did involvement in the threatment program affect their lives. In the final part I present their answers and my conclusions.
