Abstract
Večinoma strah vzbujajo živali, kot so kače, pajki in zveri, medtem ko v literaturi zelo redko zasledimo prisotnost strahu pred strigami.

Title:Fear and knowledge of centipedes (Chilopoda) in primary school students
Abstract:
Centipede (Chilopoda) is a very diverse group of animals, with one very important common characteristic. Their first pair of legs is modified into special extremities called maxillae, which allows them to inject venom into their pray. Toxicity and predatory lifestyle of centipede put a threat on the very first mammalian species and later on primates. They developed mechanisms which allowed them to respond to fear relevant stimuli and this could indicate a evolutionary fear development. Fear of animals is one of the most common fears in humans. Animals like snakes, spiders and carnivores are those which usually cause fear in humans, while centipedes are not. This thesis therefore mostly concentrates on measuring fear of centipedes in Slovenian primary school students and finding out which fear related stimuli cause this fear. In order to determine whether or not fear is the consequence of evolutionary development or model teaching, we tested third and eight grade students. By comparing one city and one country school we also wanted to find out if fear is related to knowledge and contact with that animal. Our research showed that fear levels in primary school students is very low in city and country school. Fear levels were higher in eighth grade, which indicates on model teaching as cause of fear development. Knowledge about centipede was found very poor. A lot of the students mix centipede with Earwig (Insecta) and don't know the most basic centipede characteristics.
