The master’s degree deals with the concept of satisfaction in old age from the point of view of the elderly. In this paper different theoretical perspectives of aging are presented, with focus on psychosocial factors. The data used in this paper was gathered with qualitative method, with half structured interviews analysis. The interviews were conducted with elderly persons, with different levels of independence. The interviews include elderly person who choose to live in retirement homes, elderly person who live in partly adapted environment (serviced apartments) and elderly persons who live independently at their homes.
Different theoretical concepts of aging, from the medical, political and psychosocial field are presented in the paper. I base my research on the concept of successful aging, which is contrasted with the concept of life satisfaction in old age. Results, attained from this master’s degree serve as a basis to further explore various possibilities for sociopedagogical work with the elderly. These possibilities are presented in the conclusion. I also present possibilities for further inclusion of the elderly in public debate and political dialogue.
