The thesis presents the design proposal of Enterprise Architecture model that captures platform details for management of Load Frequency Control in Slovenian Power Grid.
The design of platform architecture follows a well-established general IT management practices and principles like ITIL, TOGAF-framework, Service Oriented Architecture (SAO) and specific ELES policies and process models. Archimeta 2.0 notation was used for description of platform architecture, while BPMN notation was used to capture business process concepts. Platform architecture model cosists of following domains: Motivation Layer (Vision & Strategy), Business Layer, Application Layer, Technology layer and Implementation & Migration layer.
The concept of platform architecture was modelled with Sparx System Enterprise ArchitectTM, while ITSM tool EasyVistaTM was used for implementing case study of the support service.
Proposed Exact-Load Frequency Control (E-LFC) platform architecture model is represented with variety of views and model viewpoints to successfully communicate interests and concerns to stakeholders.
The modelling approach was chosen in order to ensure transparency and “information density” of proposed architecture model as it is composed of a large number of interconnected elements and its relations that are important for the realization of the stakeholder’s requirements.
Proposed concept of Exact-Load Frequency Control (E-LFC) addresses current issues of Load Frequency Control in Slovenian Power Grid. It’s main characteristics are introduction of marker concept of E-LFC service and mandatory use of droop for all generators. This ensures target performance and joint contribution of generators to Primary Control Reserve of Control Area. Network Power Frequency acts as “Physical Service Bus” that communicates consistent Power Control Reserve contribution demands between affected generators of Control Area. The “Physical Service Bus” is ICT independent, which adds the robustness and reliability to proposed concept of Exact-Load Frequency Control (E-LFC).
The purposed Enterprise Architecture platform is aimed at automatization of supported services and long-term management of changes while allowing business flexibility and adaptivity.
