The present master thesis addresses the topic of RDS-TMC technology, which is intendeed for transmission of traffic information. This technology has been known worldwide for several decades, while in Slovenia it has existed only for the last seven years. Today, a very low number of navigational devices can receive TMC information in Slovenia, because the first Slovenian location table has not been available free of charge until recently. There will be a big change in the near future, because DARS d. d. company with colaboration in Realis d. o. o. company made a new location table for Slovenia in June 2016, which is free of charge. This will expand the use of this technology in Slovenia in the near future a lot. Compared to a reference source of traffic information (web portal Promet.si), limitations of techonolgy TMC have been found. These limitations must be known to drivers. The question is: how useful is technology TMC today for high-quality transmission of traffic information?
In the first chapter, we realize background of FM modulation and MPX spectrum, which includes RDS-system (techonolgy TMC works in).
The next chapter talks about RDS-system. After a short presentation of the history of the system RDS, an operation description of the system RDS is introduced. In the last part, the system RDS2 is also introduced as a successor of the system RDS.
The third chapter taks about TMC-techonology. After a short presenation of the history, background of techonolgy is introduced. Then division of road network in newer location table is shown and inserting TMC messages in the system RDS is described.
In the main chapter, the process of making receiver of TMC messages is described. A flow chart of the program's algorithm is shown and described.
In the next chapter, the process of capturing data via TMC-techonology is described. Processing of this data in software environment MATLAB is described and also the traffic information on web portal Promet.si are introduced. In this chapter, statistics of calls on PIC and visitors on PIC web page for the last 5 years are also described.
In conclusion, on the basis of received TMC messages and traffic information from the reference (portal Promet.si), we realize limits of TMC technology, which are described in the last chapter.
