The principal goal of the diploma work is the analysis of spelling mistakes at learners in eight-year primary school and at learners in nine-year primary school. The analysis was carried out on the basis of the Reading and Writing Disorder Test by Borut Šali (1971), namely in the part related to dictation. The dictations were done in randomly selected past school years at randomly selected primary schools in The Slovene Littoral and Karst Region. They were assessed regarding the total number of spelling mistakes and the number of dyslectic mistakes. Moreover, comparison among primary school programmes was followed by the comparison of differences at writing regarding gender. The results of the research show an increase in number of mistakes at writing by boys in nine-year primary school. Writing by girls slightly improved. The number of children showing dyslexia symptoms increased at girls and boys as well. Spelling problems are more evident at boys than at girls.
