Abstract
Until recently, telecommunications were a flourishing industry in rapid development. Today, the market in this industry is completely saturated and providers are dealing with the competition by introducing new services. Since these services require exceptional information technology support and the shortest possible development time, the competitiveness of the telecommunications operators depend heavily on their application support. Legacy systems are usually unable to provide that kind of support, therefore a need for renovation arises. Large-scale changes in the application architecture are demanding, but often the impact they have on the rest of the organization is forgotten. For this reason, such projects are better addressed in the form of enterprise architecture. This includes not only the application architecture, but also business and technology architectures and as such is an extremely broad and challenging practice. To facilitate its implementation a variety of tools and frameworks can be used. However, since this is a relatively new field, none of them provides the full scope, which would cover all the necessary activities. Therefore, we used a combination of frameworks, which can meet all the needs of the implementation of enterprise architecture throughout its entire lifecycle. We used TOGAF for its methodology. It helps us by defining the actual implementation steps. We used ArchiMate for its language. It is needed for architecture modeling and the representation of the methodology-defined output. We used Frameworx for the content. It helps us to manage the extent of the content that needs to be modeled. Together they significantly facilitate the practice of enterprise architecture and allow for a high quality renovation. The result is a new, more efficient architecture that allows the organization to be more competitive on the market but also provides key readiness for future changes.
