Abstract

Title:Ensuring the quality of adjudication in the modern competitive dances
Abstract:
I found inspiration for my thesis from my personal experience in participating in competitive sports dancing for years long. The competitions often got me thinking: would it be possible to raise the level of trial in sport dancing competition a bit higher? I had seen room for improvement in the objectivity of the judges, when they gave their final ratings. Evaluation by the current existing policy enables a subjective opinion of an individual judge. For this purpose, the thesis describes a new method of calculating the results which tries to eliminate biased impact on the final results, namely by eliminating the highest and the lowest score given to each competitor by the judges. I used Microsoft Excel to create two programs for the analysis and conversion of old results and for the introduction of new methods. I used one of the programs to calculate quarterfinals and semifinals and the other to calculate the finals. The program automatically eliminates the lowest and the highest mark and recalculates progression to the next round and the final results of the competition. Any changes that occur are colored in a predetermined color by the two programs in order to improve transparency and in the end create a final table form. The thesis is concluded by a statistical review of each change performed after the introduction of a new method as well as a general assessment, which shows a percentage of improved objectification of result calculation.
