In my diploma thesis I present the semiconductor Fabry-Perot laser diode and one of the possibilities of its application in optical communications. Semiconductor Fabry-Perot laser diode is a simple low-cost laser that emits in a wide spectrum and can therefore be injection-locked at any given wavelength which can be used in wavelength division multiplexing in optical access networks. This means it can make a more suitable choice for user equipment than a more expensive tuneable laser. In the main part of my diploma thesis I described and presented the measurements of the laser’s injection locking with two different lengths of the optical fiber and without the connected fiber. The comparison of intensity between the injection-locked laser and its free run mode was made in a laboratory. In case of injection locking, the improvement of the frequency response and optical communication link length were noticed.
