The thesis deals with synchronisation in single-frequency networks with a stress on Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T) network synchronisation. The main aim of the thesis is to present the possibilities of an effective remote control of the public institute RTV Slovenija broadcasting network.
The introductory part focuses on theoretical basics, necessary to understand the system’s functioning. Multi-frequency network (MFN) and single-frequency network (SFN) are described. A comparison of both mentioned modes of operation is given, especially in terms of wastefulness of the frequency spectrum. It is followed by a presentation of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation and a presentation of digital terrestrial television functioning.
The following contains a more detailed description of SFN network functioning. Based on the analysis of RTV Slovenija network, the thesis presents a concept of a synchronisation remote control and offers a description of implementing this control into a single control system of the RTV network.
After testing the realised control system, advantages of remote control of SFN broadcasting network are presented. Measuring methods and measuring equipment used in controlling are described.
The conclusion includes a critical assessment of system functioning as well as possible improvements for more effective control.
