Abstract

Abstract:
With the help of chosen literature my master thesis tries to answer the questions related to the editorial work in the past and today. The thesis explains the development of American publishing and the role of editor in it, from the beginning until today when its role has been partly taken over by literary agents and independent editors who care mostly for the needs of the mass literature preferences. Great changes in making books are undoubtedly the result of great technological advances which can also save a large amount of intellectual and physical work, and have at the same time significant influence on the book distribution itself. Online distribution has a range of benefits because it is much cheaper and faster. Due to its unlimited availability it fills in the gap between the rich educated world and the poor uneducated, and at the same time confronts the traditional publishing and book selling with new challenges.
