In Slovenia, integration model of multi-objective forest planning has been most widely used. Multiple management objectives are considered in the same forest area; however, their importance may vary, mainly because of differences in (1) natural conditions, (2) the demands of society and forest owners and (3) the management possibilities for achieving the desired objectives. An important part of the integration model is the designation of priority areas which are of relatively greater importance for the selected management objectives than for the forests outside of these areas. Priority areas for the most important management objectives do not exclude other objectives; the latter are only given less importance and therefore lower priority in the decision-making regarding future forest management. In Slovenia, two main types of priority areas are used in multi-objective forest planning: (1) forests with important forest functions and (2) protected forestareas. Some concerns about the current concept of priority areas in multi-objective forest planning have been observed. For this reason, we propose possible supplements to the classification of priority areas and the ways of their use in the multi-objective forest planning.
