Mobilni telefon in pospešena kultura

The article argues for the greater emphasis on materiality and prosthetic nature of the mobile phone and for overcoming the divide between materiality and sociality in research on media technologies and on consumer or material culture in general. In order to understand the impact of "mobile turn" on the structure of feeling and on power relations in contemporary capitalism, the mobile phone's undiscoursive materiality should be explored. The author therefore argues for a move away from treatment of the mobile phone as the metaphoric representation of social relations (of class divisions, of cultural differentiation, of generational differences.) towards the investigation of its thingness and its performative role in framing contemporary sociality which is increasingly objects-centered.

Abstract

Članek obravnava možnosti objektne ali "protetične" obravnave telefona. Ugotavlja, da je proučevanja telefona kot objekta, ki ga neprenehno nosimo s seboj, osredotočeno na njegov simbolni ali reprezentacijski vidik (kot objekt telefon metaforično reprezentira zunanjo realnost, torej kaže npr. na statusne ali generacijske razlike). Da bi razumeli kako sodobni "mobilni obrat"oblikuje strukturo občutenja in odnose moči v sodobnem hitrem kapitalizmu, je potrebno narediti korak stran od razcepa med družbenostjo in materialnostjo in od analize diskurzivne simbolnosti stvari k analizi njihovega obstoja kot materialnih stvari. Avtorica se zavzema za premostitev dualizma med materialnostjo in družbenostjo v proučevanju sodobnih tehnologij in potrošne ter materialne kulture nasploh ter za preiskovanje objektnosti stvari in njihove performativne vloge v konstrukciji sodobne družbenosti, ki je vedno bolj osrediščena okoli objektov.
