The article analyses whether hate speech can be captured in the text-linguistic theoretical model of subjectivisation and evaluation. The designed model of hate speech language means is used to analyse commentary-type genres of Slovenian dailies in which writers respond to the discourse of opponents to the proposed new Family Code. It is concluded that the model is merely the first step in assessing potential hate speech languagemeans that, only in a particular discursive space relating to vulnerable social groups or individuals and constructing the "us vs. them" polarisation, lead to the discriminatory treatment of a particular group or individual
