The article analyses the research activity and development of selected social sciences that form a constituent part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. We briefly depict the institutional development of scientific research and present its key fault lines, and at the same time the successes and problems that accompanied it. We point out the following successes: the internationalisation of research, the interdisciplinary networking of researchers, the growth of scientific publications and their impact in quantitative and qualitative terms, the impact on social relations and the transfer of knowledge to the educational process. We continue with a short analysis of selected scientific disciplines and their epistemological realisation, respectively, whereas at the end we compare disciplines and point out similarities and differences emerging in the process of their development.
