The purpose of the thesis is on the domestic and foreign literature to present recommendations for reducing energy consumption at home and check how austerity measures take into account the respondents. The survey was attended by 100 participants. We where interested in whether participants comply saving tips, how often they use the selected household appliances and in which energy class they belong. We where also interested on what basis they decide to purchase selected household appliance. The questionnaire, which was solved by the participants, we found out that most of the participants take into account the advice to reduce energy consumption and household appliances which participants used essentially belong to the class A++. When buying a household appliance is first and foremost decision on the basis of price, because their financial situation does not allow them to purchase a more expensive household appliance.
