The thesis includes a comparative analysis of thermal insulation materials, construction complexes,
shapes and locations of buildings. These parameters affect the consumed heat and energy balance of
buildings. We have selected three most commonly used insulation materials which were applied to a
predetermined buildings. For the purpose of analysis the buildings are various shapes and depending
on the temperature deficit located in different parts of Slovenia. Beside thickness of thermal
insulation, the shape of the building, location, and seated transparent structural complexes in single
building greatly affect energy consumption for heating. If the transparent parts of external envelope
are installed on the appropriate side of the building, they can significantly reduce the need for heating,
especially in buildings with poor thermal insulation.
