Abstract
Najbolj brane knjige v splošnih knjižnicah so lahkotna prevodna dela. Zanimalo nas je, kakšno mnenje in odnos imajo uporabniki in knjižničarji Mestne knjižnice Ljubljana o sodobnih slovenskih romanih. V petih izbranih enotah Mestne knjižnice Ljubljana smo izvedli delno strukturiran intervju. Intervjuvali smo petdeset odraslih uporabnikov in pet knjižničarjev.

Abstract:
Most read books in public libraries are undemanding translated works. On the other hand novels of modern Slovenian authors are less read. Common assumption in general is "Slovenians do not read the works of home authors". The purpose of the research is to find out the opinion and attitude of users and librarians in Ljubljana City Library about modern Slovenian novels. In five chosen units of Ljubljana City Library we conducted semi-structured interview. We interviewed fifty adult users and five librarians. We found out that most users and librarians agreed with theassumption. Reasons why Slovenian fiction is not read are sensibly divided into four groups. Most of the answers were ranked into the group "issue of Slovenian novel". In this group we ranked answers of interviewees which talkedabout Slovenian writers not having style of writing that was close to them. Second most common reason was ranked into the group "not well known". Opinions about modern Slovenian novels were also positive, for example, interesting, modernistic, readable, not demanding "cankarjevski". But there were more negative answers, for instance morbid, not many positive plots, difficult writing style, tedious texts, demanding, no depth, unreadable, pessimistic. To encourage reading of Slovenian novels libraries prepare exhibitions, offering novelties, recommending them on lists, presenting awardedauthors. Librarians also recommend novels of Slovenian authors. Novels of Slovenian authors would be read more if they and their works would be known and promoted.
