Abstract
Magistrsko delo obravnava poznavanje in uporabo knjižničnih informacijskih virov med študenti prvih letnikov dodiplomskega študija Univerze v Ljubljani. Uvodoma naloga predstavlja značilnosti t.i. Google generacije, predvsem informacijsko vedenje njenih predstavnikov.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the use and expertise of library information sources among first year undergraduate students of University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. It is introduced with the presentation of the so called Google generation. Mostly it is focused on information behavior of its members. Moving from the general characteristics it then centers on undergraduate students as one of the user groups of Google generation. What follows is a detailed analysis of the informational behavior of first year undergraduate students: a display of actual condition of informational literacy among them, a description of ways in which undergraduate students gain and use information, a short illustration of the relation between students and physical library as well as the impact that the use of library has on their academic success. Based on relevant literature a survey was conducted in which 70 students participated: 35 from the Faculty of Arts and 35 from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering. The research was focused on students% informational behavior and was trying to determine the level of information literacy among them. The researched method used was a survey questionnaire distributed both personally to interested students and electronically via faculty library web sites. However, only the minority of data was gathered electronically. The research was based on two research questions and two hypotheses. The results confirmed the expectations that students do use internet as the most common information source when they need information for their study. The internet is also the most common source that is used first in order to fulfill students% information needs. Among listed special information sources the most known and used one is Cobiss. The results also showed that students% input in information gaining is moderate and that they think they got enough guidance about information gaining, information sources and similar, when they entered university. Beside other data we also wanted to find out whether students from different disciplines have obviously different informational behavior. For this purposes the survey was conducted at two disciplinary different faculties. The results didn%t show any bigger deviations between the two. The final impression is that first year undergraduate students involved have average information knowledge which can be a good foundation for further upgrade of their information literacy.
