Abstract

Abstract:
This master's thesis presents digital literature % type of literature which is due to its interdisciplinary nature not wholly included in any field. Due to the lack of research of the subject we presented the most important and relevant subjects and themes that are associated with digital literature % the web in relation to text and reading and web based art which is inseperatly connected to digital literature. We presented the beginnings of digital literature and its development, genres, how it is created, read and preserved. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether such literature is also created by Slovenian authors; therefore we examined complete works of four most known web artists (J. Železnikar, V. Ćosić, I. Štromajer, T. Spiller). Their works were compared to comparative frame which we constructed on the basis of revised literature and examinated works. Another aspect of research was to examine the presence of these works in libraries (and other cultural institutions) in order to determine who and how is preserving these works which most often do not have long durability on web. The results of the analysis have shown that digital literature in Slovenia is primarily created by only one author (J. Železnikar), two relevant works were also created by T. Spiller. Before our research there was no library (or other institution) who would actively preserve these works, so we addressed the initiative to the National and University library to perform preservstion within their regular Web archive harvesting.
