The paper investigates the level of information literacy of librarians and students in Serbia. The purpose of this study was to determine the precise level of information literacy of these two groups according to ACRL standards no. 2 and 4. Three samples participated in the research of information literacy: librarians, students, and seminar papers. Respondents are from five different departments (Economy and Management Engineering, Philosophy, Medicine and Law for Business and Jurisdiction) and Matica Srpska Library. Total number of respondents is 27 librarians, 100 students in the first year of study and 101 student in the fourth year of study. Seminar papers that were analyzed belong to Law Faculty students so the results are valid only for this faculty. During the research two different methods - survey and content analysies - were used in the course of collecting relevant data for these investigations. Questions in the questionnaire were done according to Performance Indicators, and Outcomes Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. Comparisons between students in the first year of study and students in the fourth year of study are made in this paper. Also, the comparison was made between students on one and librarians on the other side. Based on the results the plan is to arouse interest of the higher education institutions for the concept of information literacy and its relevance for the entire educational system. The aim is to suggest to institutions of higher education to introduce new course at the undergraduate level within their curriculum, which would be called The Basics of Information Literacy.

Magistrsko delo se osredotoča na stopnjo informacijske pismenosti knjižničarjev in študentov v Srbiji. Namen raziskave je bil ugotoviti stopnjo informacijske pismenosti omenjenih dveh skupin. V raziskavi so zraven teh dveh ciljnih skupin (knjižničarjev in študentov) analizirane tudi seminarske naloge študentov. Anketiranci prihajajo iz štirih različnih fakultet (Fakulteta za ekonomijo in management, Fakulteta za filozofijo, Fakulteta za medicino ter Pravna fakulteta) in knjižnice Matice Srbske. Anketiranih je bilo 27 knjižničarjev, 100 študentov prvega in 101 študent četrtega letnika fakultete. Analizirane seminarske naloge so pripadale študentom Pravne fakultete, kar pomeni, da dobljeni rezultati veljajo samo za to fakulteto. Podatki so bili zbrani s pomočjo dveh različnih raziskovalnih metod, ankete in analize vsebine seminarskih nalog. Anketni vprašalnik je bil izdelan v skladu s kazalci uspešnosti Standardov za informacijsko pismenost za visoko šolstvo. Opravljena je bila primerjava rezultatov med študenti prvega in četrtega letnika študija. Prav tako je bila opravljena primerjava med knjižničarji na eni in študenti na drugi strani. Raziskava je pokazala, da je potrebno izdelati načrt, kako vzbuditi zanimanje visokošolskih izobraževalnih inštitucij za informacijsko pismenost in za njen pomen za celotni izobraževalni sistem. Cilj raziskave je predlagati visokošolskim izobraževalnim inštitucijam, da v urnike dodiplomskega študija uvrstijo nov predmet z imenom Osnove informacijske pismenosti.
