Abstract

Title:
Inclusion of Slovenian research output in social sciences and humanities in Web of Science and Scopus
Abstract:
Web of Science and Scopus are considered to be two of the largest citation databases in the world, competing with each other. Aim of this master's thesis is to identify and demonstrate which of the two databases better represents Slovenian scientific research results in the fields of social sciences and humanities, and to examine which of the two databases provide better journal rankings. The basic unit of the selected sample was one researcher active in the fields of social sciences and humanities in Slovenia - his opus of scientific papers and journals in which they are published (2009-2013 period). Slovenian Current Research Information System (SICRIS) was used as a tool to analize research activities of selected researchers in the fields of social sciences and humanities in Slovenia. Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) tools were used to analyze identified scientific journals. Results indicate better performance of Scopus in the fields of social sciences and humanities in Slovenia. More articles are indexed in Scopus which in general recieve more citations. According to criteria of visibility (impact factor) Journals are generaly better and higher ranked in Scopus. Findings indicate Scopus to be more adequate tool in the fields of social sciences and humanities in Slovenia. Careful consideration is advised in the future use of both databases. Priority may be given to the use of Scopus in the fields of social sciences and humanities in Slovenia.
