Abstract
Rastline so del vsakodnevnega življenja otrok. V diplomskem delu sem ugotavljala, kaj otroci vedo o rastlinah in koliko znanja o njih lahko pridobijo ob aktivnem učenju z neposredno izkušnjo. Raziskovala sem tudi odnos otrok do rastlin. V raziskavo sem vključila 19 otrok, starih pet in šest let. V začetku sem z vsakim otrokom posebej izvedla intervju, s pomočjo katerega sem ugotavljala predstave otrok o rastlinah in odnos do njih. Odgovore otrok sem zvočno posnela. Sledile so dejavnosti, ob katerih so otroci v naravnem okolju in ob gojenju rastlin z neposrednimi izkušnjami spoznavali značilnosti rastlin, njihovo raznolikost, zgradbo in njihove življenjske potrebe.

Title:
Pre–school children's ideas about plants
Abstract:
Plants are part of children's everyday life. Yet the majority of them don't know the contents of the idea of a plant. A lot of preschool children don't recognize plants as living beings. In my diploma thesis I studied what children know about plants and how much knowledge they can obtain through direct experience. I also made a research on children's attitude to plants. 19 five and six-year old children were included in the research. At the beginning I made an interview with every child. By means of the interviews I studied the children's ideas about plants and their attitude to them. All the children's answers were recorded. Then followed activities at which the children learned about plants by growing them in natural environment and thus through a direct experience they learned about the characteristics of plants, their diversity, structure and life needs. When the activities were completed, I interviewed the children again and so found out the change in their ideas about plants and their attitude to them. I presented the results in tables and graphs. The results showed that children obtained a much more accurate ideas about plants by active learning which included pleasant experiences in nature such as growing. The children's attitude to plants became more positive. On the basis of this study I conclude that already in preschool period children need to be given a lot of opportunities in which they learn about plants through direct experiences and thus they can recognize them as an important part of the living nature.
