Abstract

Title:Researches on the structure of the natural mountain forests in the Savinja Alps
Abstract:
The article deals with the changing structure of the natural alpine forests which appear at a higher altitude. Two altitudinal gradients of the Dleska plateau show the characteristic stands from the mountain vegetation belt to the timberline. The research exposes the ecological stability of the natural mountain forests and their great activity in the outer- and inner-environment formation. The obtained results suggest that the silvicultural treatment of the managed forest should imitate the natural forest structures and their self-regeneration patterns.

Keywords:natural mountain forests, structure and increment of stands, regeneration patterns, dead biomass
