Diploma thesis Making of didactic toys with 2- to 4-year-old children is composed of theoretical and empirical part. In the theoretical part I presented general principles of child development and developmental characteristics of 2- to 4-year-olds. I defined the notion and type of play and toys plus presented their role in kindergarten. I also touched upon the significance of play in child development and the most common factors that affect child's play. At the end of theoretical part I included definitions from various authors that describe the notion of didactic play.
In the empirical part I presented the implemented descriptive research method which included twelve children aged between two and four. With the use of creative-technical processes we, together with the children, created seven didactic toys with which they designed a new play corner in the playroom; with the help of these toys they also practiced their social, locomotor, emotional and communication skills.
I used the photos to illustrate the process of making toys, final product as well as child's interaction with the toys made and the play. I documented, described and analysed all the activities implemented in the kindergarten.
