One of the key assignments of primary education is that pupils develop ability to communicate in Slovene language which is prior to obtain knowledge in other fields. Language lessons are planned to develop ability to understand and produce different text types. The research tries to find the answer to the question, if the texts of the same type in Slovene language lessons differ in syntax regarding the class and teaching materials.
In this diploma thesis, the results of syntactic text analysis in teaching materials in third and fifth grade are presented. Fifty-five texts of different text types were surveyed using the document analysis method. Based on the information from the texts on the number of sentences, number of simple sentences and compound sentences, number of clauses in compound sentence, type of complex-compound sentence and structure analysis it was ascertained, that texts in third grade are shorter and that almost half of the examples include simpler syntax of the sentence and fewer types of different independent and dependent clauses. It was ascertained that there are many syntactic differences in longer text types in third and fifth grade teaching materials (e.g., informal letter, narrative, subject description).
