Abstract

Title:
Interest in useful plants among primary school pupils in Gorenjska
Abstract:
The aim of my diploma work is to find out what features of useful plants seem to be the most interesting for pupils to be used at Science and Biology lessons. The research was done in two schools with a questionnaire. 291 pupils took part in it. In Primary School Prežihov Voranc in Jesenice, 231 pupils fulfilled it, which is 73.2 % of all. In Primary School Josip Vandot in Kranjska Gora, 78 pupils fulfilled it or 26.8 % of all the participants. Also the differences among participants’ answers of different age, gender and place of schooling were found. We assumed younger pupils are interested in different plants than the older ones are. Some topics are interesting for all pupils, and younger ones are attracted to more topics, while older ones do not seem to be interested in them at all. According to the gender, we assumed girls like different useful plants than boys which was confirmed by finding six statistically significant differences among the girls’ and boys’ answers. With the third hypothesis, we assumed pupils’ different places of living did not make any difference in plants to be interested in. We refused this hypothesis because the differences were not statistically significant, and the topics interested for the participants from Kranjska Gora were not interesting for those in Jesenice. That’s how we found out that their interest for plants can be influenced by the place of schooling.
