Abstract
Slovenija je bila že od časov Jugoslavije privlačna država priseljevanja, predvsem za prebivalce drugih republik skupne države. V zadnjem času je moč opaziti porast tujcev iz zahodnih držav. Ta opažanja potrjujejo tudi statistični podatki o prebivalcih Slovenije, ki zaznavajo porast števila tujcev predvsem po vstopu Slovenije v Evropsko unijo. Tujci z zahoda imajo v primerjavi s tujci, ki prihajajo iz držav nekdanje Jugoslavije, višji socialni status in čeprav oboji v Slovenijo prihajajo predvsem zaradi zaposlitve, tujci iz zahodnih držav zasedajo višja in bolje plačana delovna mesta. Tujci iz zahodnih držav imajo večje težave pri sprejemanju slovenske kulture in slovenskega jezika, saj se precej razlikujeta od njihovega. Ker tujci pri vključevanju v slovensko družbo potrebujejo pomoč, je bilo moje glavno raziskovalno zanimanje, kdo jim jo nudi. Tujci se za pomoč lahko obrnejo na veleposlaništvo svoje države v Sloveniji, ki jim nudi predvsem informacije o življenju in bivanju v Sloveniji. Država Slovenija jim nudi brezplačne tečaje slovenskega jezika in kulture. Ker pa sem se v diplomski nalogi osredotočila predvsem na otroke, sem pogledala tudi, kakšno pomoč otroci tujci dobijo v slovenski šoli. Lahko se vpišejo tudi v eno izmed sedmih mednarodnih šol, ki delujejo v Sloveniji, zato sem raziskala tudi, kakšne so prednosti mednarodne šole v primerjavi s slovensko. V empiričnem delu sem primerjala vključevanje otrok tujcev v šolo in slovensko družbo v slovenski osnovni šoli in britanski mednarodni šoli v Ljubljani. Ugotovila sem, da imajo na britanski šoli sicer več dejavnosti, s katerimi se učenci učijo o slovenski kulturi in se povezujejo s slovensko družbo, vendar pa je prevladujoča kultura na šoli vseeno britanska. Prednost slovenske šole pred britansko je v tem, da so učenci tujci ves čas v stiku s slovensko kulturo in jo tako lahko spontano prevzamejo, čeprav sama šola ne naredi veliko za vključevanje tujcev v slovensko družbo.

Title:
Integration of foreign children into Slovene society
Abstract:
From the times of former Yugoslavia Slovenia has been a country of immigration, mostly for the citizens of other Yugoslavian republics. But recently we noticed increase of foreigners from western countries. Statistics about population of Slovenia also confirms this observations, especially after Slovenia entered European Union. Foreigners from western countries have higher social status than foreigners from countries of former Yugoslavia and even though all foreigners come to Slovenia mostly because of work, foreigners from western countries work in higher and better paid workplaces. But foreigners from western countries have more difficulties when learning about Slovene culture and Slovene language, because they are so different from theirs. Because foreigners need help with integration into Slovene society, my main focus in this thesis was to find out who helps them. Foreigners can receive help in the embassy of their own country in Slovenia. There they can get mostly information about Slovenia and life in Slovenia. The country of Slovenia offers foreigners free courses of Slovene language and culture. And because my focus was on foreign children, I researched what kind of help foreign children can receive in Slovene school. Foreign children can also enroll in one of seven international schools in Slovenia, that's why I also researched advantages of international school in comparison with Slovene school. In the empirical part I also did a comparison between one of Slovene primary schools and British international school in Ljubljana regarding integration of foreign children into school and into Slovene society. My findings were that international school has more activities that enable children to learn about Slovene culture and be included into Slovene society, but the dominant culture in school is British. And the advantage of Slovene school is that children are in contact with Slovene culture all the time and can spontaneously embrace it.
