In the theoretical part of my diploma I will: (1) learn how to define and classify diversity, (2) study which methods to use for presenting diversity to children and how to teach them to be tolerant to diversity, (3) present picture-book fairytales related to diversity and describe the feelings of the characters in these fairytales, (4) compare selected short, modern fairytales on the subject of diversity from Slovenian and foreign authors, and rank them by their quality.
The second, practical part of diploma contains results of the survey, which will be filled out by public and private kindergarten teachers, and by personnel in institutions intended for children with special needs. In this part I present my research on the methods teachers use to include a child with special needs into a group of peers and how the peers accept this child. I want to discover, if they use fairytales to represent this subject to children and how they select a suitable fairytale.
