as part of our architectural heritage in the studies of students of
biology and domestic science at the Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana.
Activities were conducted in an authentic environment as part of the subject culture of the living
environment. A key objective was to present architecture as a bearer of various socio-cultural
meanings in a multi-layered historical and temporal reality. Students explored the connections
between architecture as a framework in a specific area of residence and the daily activities that
are closely related to the characteristics of space. In order to preserve the cultural landscape in
all its diversity and strengths, we need to understand vernacular architecture and its value in
both the present and the past. Before carrying out the project, a work plan was prepared which
included some methodological didactic cues associated with experiental learning. We followed the
scheme of observation, experience, reflection and testing of concepts in concrete situations. By
reliving the experience of space and interpretation of native material - stone - we tried to
stimulate the students, future school teachers, to think critically about the responsible
management
of the built and natural environment.
