The article deals with the foreign policy of Croatia in a combined process of the formation of an independent state, governmental institutions, the designing of foreign policy strategies and diplomatic apparatus, as well as keeping regular connections on an international level. Three large concentric spheres frame the activities of the Croatian foreign policy and which are alsoher foreign policy focus: relations with the neighbouring countries, striving for membership in the European Union and the fortification of national security with the aid of international activities. According to the author, it is evident that Croatia, as a small state, cannot, in some future conditions, ensure her security solely by leaning on her own resources. It is also inadequate to form some security union with parts of bordering states, but only a global system of security of continental European character could be of help.
