Abstract
What kind of knowledge, attitudes and skills are essential for being a citizen in a media age? How does one create opportunities for young people to develop their interests in democracy? What role can the media, teachers and parents play? Media education offers an answer - the internationally recognized definition of media literacy, is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and produce communications in a variety of media (print, TV, computers). Media literacy is the ability to understand how mass media work, how they produce meanings, how they are organized, and how to use them wisely,in a creative way.
