Spomini na socializem : "čas napredka in dobrega življenja" ali "čas strahu in zatiranja"?

The authors ground their analysis of Slovenian citizens` evaluations of the socialist regime on the theoretical accounts which reject the simplified view of socialist regimes as having maintained themselves by repression and as never been accepted as legitimate. According to these accounts, complex interactions between political elites and the governed were taking place in which acceptance or rejection of the regime was produced. The results of the analysis show that the evaluations are relatively positive and diferentiated. However, the main hypothesis that the workers have a considerably more positive view compared to the intelligentsia, because the regime was presumably concerned with the former`s interests and neglected the latter, could not be confirmed: the intelligentsia`s evaluations are even slightly higher. It is suggested that it was not the dissatisfaction with the regime that motivated the intelligentsia to criticize it and act against it, but their growing aspirations incited by their relatively good social and economic position.
