In this article we present five species of bark beetles on Silver fir (Abies alba): Pityokteines spinidens, Cryphalus piceae, Pityokteines curvidens, Pityophthorus pityographus, Pityokteines vorontzowi and Pissodes piceae. A short description of their morphology, bionomy, description of damages, possible misidentifications, hosts, their threat to forests, causes of their outbreaks and previous gradations in Slovenia are given. For the most important species control of population density and suppression are also described and their most important natural enemies are listed.
