Abstract

Abstract:
The article seeks to answer the question, how it is possible to show or to recognize those visible and/ or symbolic elements in a concrete physical spacet that decisively contribute to feelings of risk and danger. In the opposition to the starting point that the idea of the territorially founded world has been irrelevant and so to say archaic, the article attempts to confirm the thesis on (revived) relevance of research and observation of physical space as an important determinant within individual perceptions and conceptions of the world of every day life. The Bauman's (2000) "uncivility" of the urban places is even more interesting from the aspect of hyper-militarization and sterilization of some typically urban city places. This is problematical especially in the light of poststructuralist idea that the limits and freedom of the outside world are still a reference framework for identities and identity policies. The descriptive analysis of a concrete open city location and closed (post) urban space has confirmed the existence of a very concrete social, spatial and cultural implications of magnification of (feelings) of risk and danger what all threatens the urban city pulse, that Wirth named "urbanism as a way of life" (1938).
