The article deals with some issues regarding the transfer of scientific knowledge in practice and the incorporation of scientists in the international research networks. The main conclusions are drawn from the results of the extensive inquring among the active scientists in Slovenia. Among other things, the scientists have assessed the situation concerning the practical usefulness of their research results, their inclusion in international scientific networks, the role of new communication and information technologies in their research work. On the ground of their' assessments, the following main conclusion is made. There is a gap between applicative and international orientation of science in Slovenia. The transferof knowledge into practice is still Achille's Heel of scientific system in Slovenia.
