In the thesis I thoroughly examined the free and open-source software package GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System), which is considered as being one of the most comprehensive and multi-purpose »Desktop« GIS (Geographic Information System). I focused on the review of GRASS software modules for carrying out topographical analyses, which are based on the methodology of tracking or routing of water flow, and on the display of their functionality in a real case.
The thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part, which is theoretical, deals with geographic information systems, free and open-source software, GRASS and the methodology used in the present modules to express the analyses calculations. The second part of the thesis is more practical. It covers the presentation and description of the module for the calculation of the topographical analysis which are showing the terrain characteristics in a certain point and modules for topographical analysis calculations, based on the methodology of tracking or routing of water flow. This part also presents my entire work with the GRASS. Constructed spatial analyses, which show the use of the functionality of the modules on a real case, are presented in the form of different types of 2D-, 2.5D or 3D-displays.
For approximation of the actual surface I used raster DEM (Digital Elevation Model), which I created from the DEM data with the resolution of 12,5 m. Spatial analysis were made for the area that covers the main part of the municipality of Kamnik and its nearby surroundings.
