In master's thesis I discuss the field of risk management process in construction projects from the
viewpoint of a building contractor. I present risk overview, previous research in this area and a new
approach to risk analysis in construction by project components. The proposed methodology for risk
management in a construction company, described in this thesis is based on the proposed checklist.
Proposed checklist includes all identified risks in terms of building contractor and is useful for small
and also for large projects. Unlike the complex systems of risk management, which include laborious
analysis, managers and practitioners in construction companies in the first phase need mainly a
simplified model that will be useful for everyday work. Considering all the uncertainty and
unpredictable events in the construction process the use of various advanced methods and modeling
with high accuracy is questionable. Special attention in master's thesis is devoted to present situation
in slovenian market and method of project controling in construction projects with earned value
method.
In master's thesis I also present and analyze fourteen different construction projects. By analyzing the
projects, it was found, that for effective risk management projects have to be classified at least by type,
size, location, company experience and past performance of considered type of project, as these
analysis parameters have very important impact on the magnitude of risk. For systematic risk
management an effective information system is indispensable. Information system has to enable, in
addition to standard features and information, a transparent database of identified and realized risks.
