The thesis presents the results of the analyses of land cover change due to land consolidation, which was conducted for the study area of Vihre. The results show the success of spatial analysis for this purpose using free available software solutions. The introductory part includes both, the theoretical basis of the image processing in the field of remote sensing, and basic information about land consolidation. Additionally, the necessity and importance of preserving specific ecosystems in the agriculture landscape are presented, as well as advantages of the preserving measures for the agriculture and agricultural landscape itself. Among important elements of the agricultural landscape, hedges and individual trees have to be outlined, which have got a special attention during our research. The practical part of the research was carried out using the software solution SPRING, available as a freeware. The input data for the analysis of land cover before and after land consolidation were the orthophotos. The emphasis was on identification of the areas with high vegetation before and after land consolidation, and on modifications of field paths. It has been shown that land consolidation, above all, is associated with the intensification of land use.
