The present graduate thesis is an attempt at designing a bike route and a tourist bike map in the northern foothills of mount Uršlja gora. The introductory section provides the theoretical background, which served as the basis for bike-route planning and design, while discussing the types of cycling, the influence of mountain biking on the environment as well as providing an analysis of mount Uršlja gora northern foothill area. The conceptual design depicts the Na Suško po gladovno vodo (Heading for Suško to Drink Starving Water) bike route alignment through a story from the book entitled In kaj so ljudje ko lesovi (And What Are We But Woods). Apart from site selection, the paper also implements suggestions on bike-route management strategies so as to use only the natural resources and locally-sourced materials. The practical section focuses on a bike map design process in the form of online interactive mapping application, which was developed according to the editorial plan under the "methodology and data-collection" section. What is more, the interactive map includes additional contents, information on the natural and cultural heritage sites in the area as well as the photos of its vantage points.
An integrated approach to Na Suško po gladovno vodo bike route planning and design enabled us to successfully connect the existing cycling routes and trails of individual municipalities and create a mountain bike network of mount Uršlja gora with a 130km ride. Last but not least, by offering a viable solution for sustainable tourism development – a bike tour excursion, this project can, in our opinion, indeed boost tourism in the northern parts of mount Uršlja gora.
