This thesis deals with the market of rentable apartments and analyzes the prices of apartment rents in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Klagenfurt (Austria). Both cities are presented and described using statistical data with emphasis on characteristics that affect the demand and supply of rental housing. Furthermore a short description of housing legislation in the field of tenancy is given. The main part of the thesis deals with the analysis of market rents for apartments in Ljubljana and Klagenfurt, with the aim to point out the differences and similarities between the market of rentable apartments in Slovenia and Austria. Results of the analysis have shown that market rents for apartments in both cities are similar. Analysis also pointed out that the operating costs of rentable apartments in Klagenfurt are higher than in Ljubljana, but one must take into consideration that average monthly wage in Klagenfurt is also higher than the one in Ljubljana.
