Abstract

Title:An outline scheme of the kayaking course of the Sava river at Hrastnik : graduation thesis
Abstract:
The present construction of a road way will link Hrastnik with Zidani Most to ensure the road to carry heavy traffic. In regard to the construction plans made in the local community an agreement have been reached for a possible reconstruction of an existing kayaking course in 2007. The paper presents three different solutions for the construction of the kayaking course based on current worldwide trends. The necessary data for calculating water surface profiles and discharges were collected. Onedimensional and two-dimensional models were calibrated with the actual conditions. The influence of the reconstruction of the course was examined for low and high discharges with the probability of 10 % (Q10) and 1% (Q100). With the use of the two-dimensional model we presented the velocity vectors and water surface profiles with different solutions and in different discharges. Three propositions for the reconstruction were made: the financially undemanding solution (example 1), secondly, the construction of a new kayaking channel (example 2), and thirdly the construction of a kayaking course of worldwide standards of the highest rank (example 3). The new kayaking course as a sport facility would contribute to the higher competition level of the Hrastnik kayak paddlers and would make possible the organization of an European or World championship. Thus, the kayaking course would also enhance the tourist awareness of the town Hrastnik.
