In this thesis we compared different evaluation methods and their with the results of standard test method ASTM C 1138. This method simulates the abrasive action of waterborne particles and is most commonly used for determining abrasion resistance of concrete, designed for use in hydraulic structures.
In theoretical section of the thesis we described abrasion erosion in hydraulic structures, different test methods used for determining abrasion resistance of concrete along with different materials and techniques for protection of hydraulic structures from abrasion erosion. Furthermore we discussed abrasion resistant concrete in more detail because of its frequent use in hydraulic structures.
For the purpose of the experimental work, we designed six different concrete mixtures from which we cast several specimens. We made specimens for a compressive strength test, an elastic modulus test and for testing abrasion resistance of concrete. The results of the abrasion resistance test were evaluated using three different methods. The first one was the current method specified in standard ASTM C 1138. The second method involved using a
rotational laser profilometer and the third one was method where we mesaured the change in level of the water level in container. A comparison of these three methods were made and
suggestions for their improvement followed. In addition, we analysed the abrasion resistance of manufactured concrete mixtures.
