Because of environmental legislation demands, the furniture producer "Brest Pohištvo, d.o.o. Cerknica", is introducing water-borne coating formulations for spraying applications. Consequently, a new drying oven should be installed. The questions are, how the forced drying influences the resistance properties of water- borne coating systems, and which systems are the most suitable ones. Our research was performed on 48 veneer oak panels. One third of the samples was stained with a bright water-borne stain, the other third with a dark one, and the rest remained unstained. High gloss one-component water-borne surface finishing system was applied on half of the samples from each group, and a low gloss two-component water-borne coating on the other halves. The samples were dried at room temperature, and at 45 °C, 55°C and 65 °C. After 24 hours the surfaces according to R2 standards of the Ikea group were tested. The drying temperature as well as preceding staining did not influence resistance properties of water-borne coatings. However, the investigated properties were highly dependant on the type of the surface system. The low gloss coatings exhibited better resistance properties.
