How to monitor intergenerational solidarity in social support networks?

The Intergenerational Solidarity in Slovenia research focused on the sources of intergenerational solidarity in social support networks. In the paper we presented the methodological problems that we faced as we used data that was not collected for this specific research, i.e. the study of intergenerational solidarity. First of all the article presents the conceptual and operational definition of intergenerational solidarity. This is followed by a description of the survey, data and the solutions to the methodological problems at implementing the concept of intergenerational solidarity. In the descriptive overview of the basic results we show that the approaches used for the operational definition of intergenerational solidarity lead to an appropriate estimate of intergenerational solidarity in social support networks.

Abstract

V raziskavi Medgeneracijska solidarnost v Sloveniji preučujemo vire medgeneracijske solidarnosti v omrežjih socialne opore. V pričujočem prispevku so predstavljeni metodološki izzivi, s katerimi smo se soočili zaradi uporabe podatkov, ki niso bili zbrani prav za namen te raziskave, t.j. za preučevanje medgeneracijske solidarnosti. V članku najprej predstavimo konceptualno in operacionalno opredelitev medgeneracijske solidarnosti. Sledi opis uporabljenih podatkov ter opis rešitev metodoloških težav pri operacionalizaciji koncepta medgeneracijske solidarnosti. V deskriptivnem pregledu osnovnih rezultatov pokažemo, da so uporabljeni pristopi za operacionalno definicijo medgeneracijske solidarnosti omogočili veljavno oceno medgeneracijske solidarnosti v omrežjih socialne opore.
