The basic ambition of the article is theoretical reconstruction of visual codes, that are connected with Slovenian Alpine culture. The analysis of historical development of visual media - from painting, photography, film to popular culture - in context of depicting the mountain landscape reflects the attachment of culture, society and individuals to everyday environment. Visualrepresentations in this case reveal, that mountains are important feature in shaping process of Slovenian collective memory and imagination of community. From this point of view article is also emphasizing that traditional, religious view of mountains is contemporary society substituted by modern practices from sport to national identification and mythologization of cultural landscape. The analysis of visual representation in Slovenian Alpine culture hence reveals also similar process of modernisation, which was interpreted by many classic sociologist in context of modernization of life world.
