Author's aim is to draw attention to role, which human body may have in origination and maintenance of cultural phenomena. For that very reason, author engage in a comparison between two cultural phenomena, which cannot be properly understood without taking into consideration their specific body techniques, and thus indirectly human body agency as well. The first phenomenon is a youth culture called rave, while the second phenomena is an artistic expression called body art performance. Strong empathic feelings among rave partygoers can be achieved by exposing their bodies to pleasant body techniques, like for example consumption of dance drugs, dance, listening to rave music and so on. On the other hand, body art performers are in a position to shock audience by applying mainly repulsive body techniques like for example body piercing, cutting their own skin, bleeding and so on. While the first cultural phenomenon emphasises an event under the body surface, the second one based on an event on the body surface.
