Upgrading the current solution for preparation of bills of materials in Gorenje, Notranja Oprema Company, Ltd., we aimed to solve the problem of having a large number of final product codes, and therefore, a large number of bills of materials. As the production lines expand and new products become available, the number of product codes, as well as bills of materials, are continuously increasing. The production of the latter is both complicated and time-consuming under the current circumstances. To solve both problems, new, variant bill of materials could be introduced, or the production process updated to bring the bills of material as close as possible to the variant model. Model variant bill of materials was developed and incorporated into the information system. Upgrading, we managed to lower the number of product codes, make the production of bills of materials and order input faster and easier, and consequently, lower the response time of the company and increase its effectiveness.
