The data analysed in this diploma work were acquired with the help of the internet. We determined the type of wood chippers and obtained the following most important technical details: material diameter, the weight of the chipper, horsepower, the way of inserting raw materials into the shredder andthe location of making wood chips. We came to the conclusion that large wood chippers are the heaviest and that they can shred very thick chunks of wood of up to 130 cm which ought to be inserted with a loader. That is why these chippers require a separate and powerful engine. Among the large wood chippers one can find horizontal and tube grinders, truck mounted chippers, track chippers and some trailers. They can be used for working in the forest,on a forest road or terminal. Moreover, it can be said that the weight and the power of the engine of medium wood chippers are lower than those of large shredders and that they can handle material diameters of up to 50 cm. Most of the trailers, hand-fed and self-propelled wood chippers which are suitable for working on a forest road and skid trail belong to this group of shredders. They can be fed manually or with the help of a loader. Light wood shredders weigh the least, require little horsepower and cut fine wood of up to 25 cm in diameter. These types of chippers are considered to be some trailers, attachments and self-propelled shredders. They are suitable for working in the forest or on a forest road meanwhile the raw material can be inserted into the chipper only by hand.
