The master's thesis deals with the tourism offer related to the heritage of the Isonzo Front, and
presents its crucial role in the development of tourism in the Goriška region. The period of
World War I left behind a vast number of casualties and wounded, causing immense suffering.
The consequences of war can also be seen in the environment, as the entire area was transformed
into a battlefield. These traces, which remind us of events from the past, also represent tourism
potential. For many years, the legacy of the Isonzo Front was neglected and considered a
secondary topic. The heritage of World War I on our territory only gained its true significance
during the formation of the Republic of Slovenia. Over the past thirty years, significant progress
has been made in this area, making the heritage a crucial part of cultural heritage and the tourism
supply in the region today. All this heritage is now united under the cross-border Walk of Peace
from the Alps to the Adriatic trail, representing a unified tourism product for the wider area.
Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement since particular places could be better utilized
and made more accessible to visitors, thus contributing to the further development of the
tourism offer in the Goriška region. As part of the research, we formulated three proposals to
complement and develop the tourist offer. The first proposal is forming a large museum of the
First World War, following the example of the successful Kobarid Museum. The second is the
establishment of a new open-air museum on Sveta Gora, as there is a 250-meter underground
tunnel or cave from the First World War, which is currently not included in the tourist offer.
The third suggestion is to extend the offer in open-air museums since information boards are
not always the best option for informing visitors, and other presentation aids could enrich the
experience.
